Know your Serger: Linen Table Runner Class #6
Yankee Quilter Class Name: Linen Table Runner with Your Serger
Date / Time: July 14, 2026 10:00am – 2:00pm
Technique / Description: This month’s class we will make a linen table runner using pintucks and lace insertion.
Featured stitches: narrow and wide flatlock, 2 or 3 thread rolled hem, and 3 or 4 thread overlock stitches
Fabric Requirements: 1 yard of linen and 2 yards lace at least ½ inch wide ( I used two packaged lace hem tape)
1/4" matching ribbon (optional)
Thread requirements: 4 spools thread to match linen fabric
Notions requirements for this project:

Tailors chalk for marking linen

Best Press or other good fabric starch – it is important to starch the linen well before cutting and then again before you sew/serge on it! I suggest prewashing the linen.

Large eye embroidery needle for threading and hiding the serger threads

Fraycheck

Rotary cutter with new blade and at least 18” ruler

Size 70 and size 80 needles for your serger needles (linen is lightweight)
Standard Notions Required:
1. Your serger, power cord, foot control, all accessories and the manual. If you don't have the manual, please download and print one from the internet. It is a great resource. Be sure to bring the tool that allows you to change the needle. It is either a tiny flathead screwdriver or a tiny Allen wrench. If you don’t have it, try to replace it before class.
2. Standard sewing supplies : Rotary cutter, scissors, rotary cutter rulers (6x18, 2.5 x 12), seam ripper, Best Press or other fabric spray starch, Fraycheck (for sealing ends of threads), pins or clips
3. Long tweezers (these come with every new serger, but if yours has wandered off, please be sure you bring one!) They are your best friend when threading a serger!
