Misbehaving Geese

Technique Sheets: Flock of Birds and Migrating Geese
This class is a technique building class utilizing the Studio 180 Design’s Tucker Trimmer tools and two techniques: Flock of Birds and Migrating Geese. You will learn to make the blocks, experiment with color placement and sizing of blocks to build a design. The fabric selection can be scrappy from your stash or an intentional fabric selection. These blocks can be the star of your project or complement other center blocks like the Twisted Wedge Star.
Note: My inspiration for the two samples shown above were the Blockbusters Ferris Wheel #93 and Star Flight #92. These are free downloads on the Studio 180 website and can be used for your color auditions.
Pattern/Tool Requirements
• Required tools: Tucker Trimmer I, II and/or III
• Required Technique Sheets: Flock of Birds; Migrating Geese
Fabric Requirements
• Fabric Suggestions for a 24” x 24” wall hanging/table topper
• 1/2 yard background fabric
• ½ yard of the focus fabric
• 4-6 coordinating or complementary small print fat quarters
• Note: I am happy to meet with you prior to the class date for fabric help
• For my red and white sample, I used:
• 2 different small print red fat quarters, a green and red fat quarter and ½ yard background fabric (white) to make the 24” x 24” wall hanging (not including backing and binding)
• It contains 4 flock of birds units in one red and white colorway, 4 flock of bird units in another red and white colorway and 8 combo units in red, white and green fabrics
• For my migrating geese and flock of birds sample, I used:
• ½ yard background (peach) and 6 fat quarter remnants left over from other projects, plus 1 fat quarter each of the blue floral and the brown accent color.
• It contains four sets of 9 migrating geese, 4 flock of bird units and a 13” Twisted Wedge Star (Left Spin) in the center
Please bring the following items to class:
• Basic Sewing Supplies For Class and your favorite sewing machine for piecing
• Rulers:
o Magic Wand ¼” ruler
o Studio 180 Design First Choice 7” x 13” Ruler or other favorite rulers
o Invisigrip for the back of your Studio 180 rulers to prevent slipping when cutting
• Pressing stick (I love my wool covered one!) – for pressing some seams open
• Chalk pen or other marking tool
• Fine tip sharpie
• Best Press or other fabric spray starch
• Rotary cutter and fresh blades
• Please press and starch the fabric prior to class.
